Collection for Priest Training Fund will be taken on the 27th /28th August. Parishioners on the Gift Aid Scheme will be handed an envelope for this collection next weekend. The Diocese relies on your kind generosity.

There will be second collection for Peter’s Pence on 27-03-11. (Third Sunday of Lent).

Peter's Pence is payment made more or less voluntarily to Rome. It began under the Saxons in England and is seen in other countries. Though formally discontinued in England at the Reformation, a post-Reformation payment of uncertain characteristics is seen in some English manors into the 19th century. In 1871 Pope Pius IX formalized the practice of lay members of the Roman Catholic Church - and "other persons of good will" - to provide financial support to the Roman See.

Mass of Anointing of the Sick

World Day of Consecrated Life

WORLD DAY of CONSECRATED LIFE: On February 2nd feast of the Presentation of Our Lord in the temple Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Taper Cardigan at 12.30pm, to mark the 15th Anniversary of World Day of Consecrated Life. Bishop Tom Burns SM will be the principle celebrant. All are invited to join to celebrate the life and work of consecrated persons.

Sick Clergy Collection

SICK CLERGY FUND (MENEVIA): The Second Collection next weekend (15/16 January) is for the SICK CLERGY FUND. The Diocese now has 12 priests and three housekeepers in retirement. The cost as per March 2010 was £105,000. In addition the Diocese has to pay £38,000p.a. into the pension fund for the existing priests. Last year’s collection has paid just £11, 740 towards the fund. Therefore, your generosity will be appreciated and commended.

Fr. Kelly of Dunvant: A Holy Servant of God

Fr Peter Kelly of Dunvant Parish

Many thanks from your webmaster to all the parishioners who prayed, said the Rosary and had Masses said for the time I was in hospital. There are too many people to name, but you are all in my prayers also and I will be eternally grateful to you all for your invaluable help and support in every way.

Of course special thanks to our own Parish Priest Fr. Paul Joseph who helped in so many ways.

There is also a special mention to a very special soul who this trying time brought me into contact with: Swansea-based priest Fr. Kelly, who's vocation is to visit the patients of Singleton Hospital. Indeed this kindly and charitable soul came to me on every day and it meant that almost every day I could receive Holy Communion (one day I could not because despite visiting twice that day, Fr Kelly either found me in too much pain or asleep).

I really have nothing but praise for this wonderful man of God whose calling enables him to give so much hope, joy and comfort to those in pain, worrying, recovering, alone etc. To see his smiling face, hear him blessing the patients and staff, as they in turn would call "goodnight Father" after the silver haired priest all in black, it is one of most endearing memories of my stay in hospital and always brings a smile to my face.

A fellow patient told me that Fr Kelly had been there for his own mother when she was in the hospital some decades before.

It reminds one of how the Catholic Priesthood can still mean a great deal, can bring so much succour to souls in need, is still (despite media assaults and rare scandals) a truly Holy Calling.

Even now when I get pains or am weary as I recover, the smiling face and truly charitable nature of the kindly Fr Kelly truly lifts my soul. If ever a man was sent by Our Lord and Our Lady to help those who need it I think Fr Kelly is that man.

Our diocese is very lucky to have such a priest.

Thank you and God Bless you Fr Kelly of Dunvant Parish. You and your vocation will always be in my prayers.

Our Lady of the Taper Shrine Mass, September 26th

Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady of the Taper Shrine, Cardigan: The Statue of Our Lady of the Taper will be taken up to Westminster during the Papal visit. The Holy Father will light the Taper candle in the hand our Blessed Mother. To recognise this historic and wonderful occasion, there will be a special Mass of Thanksgiving at the National Shrine, Cardigan on Sunday September 26th. It will be presided over by Bishop Thomas Burns. The Holy Rosary is at 2.30pm; the Holy Mass follows it. Please note the date for your participation.

Jack Kenny's St David's Medal

SAINT DAVID’S DIOCESAN MEDAL – The St. David's Diocesan Medal (Bene Merenti) was awarded to Jack Kenny for his faithful service to God and His Church on Friday 25th June at 7.00pm at Our Lady and St. Cadoc, Kidwelly by Bishop Thomas Matthew Burns. It was wonderful that so many parishioners were able to attend Mass on this special occasion.

May we take this opportunity to thank Jack, Vera and family for inviting us to share this special evening and for the warm hospitality shown to all at the buffet afterwards.

Guild of Ransom Gift to the Parish

GUILD OF RANSOM – Fr. Thomas was handed a cheque for £6,000 from Bishop Tom on Friday. This magnificent donation to the parish has been received from The Guild of Ransom. Our parish is fortunate to have received over the last number of years substancial financial support from the guild, we thank Our Lord for providing such holy organisations to look after the material good of his church. A mass of thanks giving for the work of the guild will be held in the near future. Deo Gratias.

Jack Kenny Receives the St David Medal from Bishop Burns

Tonight in Kidwelly, at the Church of Our Lady & St Cadoc, the parish came together for a Mass celebrated by Bishop Thomas Burns, our outgoing parish priest Fr. Thomas and our new parish priest Fr. Paul Joseph.

The Bishop was in our parish to present Jack Kenny with the newly established St David medal, for his many years of service to the parish.

With a chance to meet our new parish priest it was a most eventful evening.

Friday Prayers for Reparation and Atonement

MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOP -

Please gather together as a ‘Family’ on each Friday during the month of May to pray together for Reparation and Atonement at this very difficult time.

Please also pray for our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, whose wise and courageous leadership is so important for the Church at this time.

Therefore, as requested by the Bishop, on each Friday throughout the month of May at 7.00pm in Burry Port there will be a service of special prayers.

Celebratory Mass for Bishop Mullins and Canon Mullins

TUESDAY 27TH APRIL – A Mass was held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on Tuesday 27th April in celebration of Bishop Daniel Mullins and Canon Edmund Mullins Jubilees. His Lordship Bishop Mullins celebrated the 40th Anniversary of his Ordination as Bishop on the 1st April and on the 28th May it will be Canon Mullins’ 60th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood. May we take this opportunity to congratulate them both and thank them for their long and faithful service to us and Our Lord.
