OUR PARISH PRIEST'S EASTER MESSAGE

Holy Week message from the Parish Priest:

As we prepare to celebrate the great events of our salvation, I want to implore us to approach this holy season with hearts and minds that are worthy of the love that Christ showed us, in his great sacrifice. Let us eschew all forms of hatred, gossips, rumours and ill feelings. Let us allow Christ to be rooted in all of our actions.

The “Exsultet”, the great Easter song which doubles also as the Easter Proclamation states clearly that the grace of this most wonderful event “dispels all evil, washes guilt away, restores lost innocence, brings mourners joy; it casts out hatred, brings us peace, and humbles earthly pride...when heaven is wedded to earth and man is reconciled with God!” You will agree with me that this is most gracious. PLEASE do not let us lose out in the grace that God is lavishing on us. Our act of appreciation to God for this greatest event in human history is to “climb the mountain of the Lord with clean hearts and pure hearts”

Please let us remain the salt of the earth and light of the world. We are witnesses of Christ!

Let us join of prayers and petition with St. Francis of Assisi;

O Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace!
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is discord, harmony.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sorrow, joy.

Oh Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life."

I wish you all a grace-filled Holy week and Happy Easter Celebrations.

A Blessed St Joseph's Day

May all the parishioners and visitors to the Catholic Parish of Burry Port & Kidwelly have a very happy and Holy St Joseph's Day.

Our own Bishop Emeritus Mullins, who we are so lucky and fortunate to have in our parish, has a special devotion to St Joseph, who lived such a humble, hard-working and Holy life as an example for us all.

Joseph is the patron of the dying because, assuming he died before Jesus’ public life, he died with Jesus and Mary close to him, the way we all would like to leave this earth.

Joseph is also patron of the universal Church, fathers, carpenters, and social justice.

Happy St Patrick's Day

A very Happy St Patrick's Day to all the parishoners of Burry Port and Kidwelly Catholic Parish, and to all readers of this Parish blog.

St Patrick is the Patron Saint of Nigeria, apparently because it was the Irish who took Catholicism to the African country, and so I am sure all parishoners will wish to say a very happy and blessed St Patrick's Day to our very own Nigerian priest, Fr. Benedict Koledoye.

Peter's Pence Collection

* Peter’s Pence Collection:

There will be second collection for Peter’s Pence on 27-03-11. (Third Sunday of Lent).

Peter's Pence (from Wikipedia):

Peter's Pence is payment made more or less voluntarily to Rome. It began under the Saxons in England and is seen in other countries. Though formally discontinued in England at the Reformation, a post-Reformation payment of uncertain characteristics is seen in some English manors into the 19th century. In 1871 Pope Pius IX formalized the practice of lay members of the Roman Catholic Church - and "other persons of good will" - to provide financial support to the Roman See.

New Parish Lectures on Catholicism

OUR JOURNEY THROUGH FAITH:

The lecture series “Our Journey through Faith” will begin this Lenten season.

It is an opportunity for us to learn more about our Faith and expound the treasures of Catholicism.

All are welcome to this series of talks. Details will be given to us next Sunday.

Notice Regarding Mass Times

In order to simplify this site, Mass Times etc. will no longer be posted here in this section.

Rather they will have their own stand-alone page (see tabs at the top of the site) where they will be edited/changed every week.

This is in order to stop any confusion between upcoming Masses and old posts.

It will also help us de-clutter the main page, on which news of Parish events and other matters will continue to be posted.

Thank you.
