Bishop Burns explains the significance of the new St David medal before presenting it to its very first recipient, Jack Kenny, a Kidwelly parishioner.

Fr. Koledoye incenses the statue |

Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, Burry Port
Following a procession to the Church and the recitation of the Holy Rosary, Fr Benedict Koledoye unveiled the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary.
In his sermon he told the congregants, from Burry Port and Kidwelly, the story of the statue, which had many interesting facets.
Our priest had decided on getting a statue of Our Lady and asked for prices to be found. A parishioner asked... and an old statue was kindly donated by the Carmelites based in Dolgellau. The statue then had to be restored.
Prayers are said before the statue |
This was going to cost a lot of money, but eventually a Swansea University-based artist offered to do it for a fraction of the asking-price of others. When the statue entered his home a wonderful thing happened.
His son, who had been bed-bound for many months with a severe spinal injury, recovered. He was convinced it was because of the statue and (despite not being a Catholic) did not want the statue to leave their home.
As well as donating the statue the kind sisters also donated vestments (as pictured), altar vessels and another statue of the Sacred Heart.
There can be little doubt to the faithful in our Parish, that the arrival of the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary in our little corner of Wales, will bring many great Graces to us all.
Parishioners wait to pay homage to Our Lady |
What a wonderful way to honour Our Lord, by paying homage to His Holy Mother who gave the world its Saviour, protected Him in the flight to Egypt, witnessed His Passion, and stood at the foot of the Cross.

The prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart |
After Mass Fr Benedict Koledoye unveiled the statue of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. The statue was blessed with Holy Water and incense. The congregation then said the prayers of Consecration to the Sacred Heart, followed by the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (in front of the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary).
Fr Koledoye had explained to the congregation that thanks to many blessings the statue was erected in our church and it had not cost the parish a single penny. Even the stand for the candles in front of the statue had been donated by a kind parishioner.
The beautiful new statue |
In his homily during the Mass Fr Koledoye has explained how the statue of the Sacred Heart could bring many blessings to our parish and community, be used by us all as a focus for our prayers, and also enable all of us to live good lives in our community, allowing the love of the Sacred Heart to be reflected in our daily lives.
As a whole parish we should say a big thank you to our hard-working priest and those generous parishioners who put their time and effort into obtaining both the statue of the Sacred Heart and Our Lady of the Rosary.
Following the blessing and the consecration prayers, parishioners queued to light candles, and then gathered in the parish hall for tea and biscuits.
